The initial survey showed that the membrane had not been breached and Proteus Waterproofing working with Proteus’ approved contractor and client, Land Securities, recommended an overlay solution.
Proteus Waterproofing specified Proteus Pro-Therm insulation to bring the hotel up to current standards. This was cold bonded into place to the existing felt membrane thereby preventing any fire risk to the hotel. A new two-layer Proteus Pro-Felt® system incorporating Ultima BBA accredited cap sheet was further installed as the new waterproofing membrane providing a complete waterproofing system with a 20-year guarantee.
The main challenge for Proteus Waterproofing was the creation of new box gutters due to limited space in several areas of the roof. These were needed to ensure that excess rainwater was efficiently channelled away from the roof area. Installing a new membrane also involved manually lifting large M & E plant to complete the full waterproofing system.
Reason why Proteus Waterproofing?
Proteus was chosen due to its ability to offer good design solutions, particularly around existing roof details. This ensured that disruption for staff and guests was kept to a minimum at the hotel while work took place.
