Project Brief

With the Appleton School in Benfleet constructed in the 1960s, the roof of both the tower block and associated plant and lift motor room were beginning to show significant deterioration which was causing water ingress, ponding and moss build up. To waterproof the 650m² roofs, the contractor turned to the product range, technical expertise and practical experience of Proteus.

Key Requirements: Health and Safety

With the work undertaken during school hours from both scaffold ladders and the tower, the roofing works had to follow a strict safety regime so that there would be minimal impact on the buildings below. As a simple and efficient overlay to the existing mineral felt, Proteus’ Pro-Cold system ensured reduced disruption, minimised noise on-site and offered a smooth installation when compared to hot-applied alternatives.

The Pro-Cold 15 Year System allowed a flame free roofing system to be applied which prevented all electrical cables from having to be disconnected. As it is liquid-applied, the product was also quick and easy to use whilst also allowing any complex detailing work to be delivered to the highest standard.

Key Requirement: Long Term Performance

Specified in a traditional dark grey finish, the Pro-Cold 15 also utilises innovative liquid seamless waterproofing technology to provide a maintenance free roofing system that will last for 15 years – providing a long term and sustainable solution which was ideal for the challenging location.

Meeting strict application restrictions and maintaining exceptional attention to detail, the seamless Proteus waterproofing system helped to ensure the school roof will benefit from outstanding workmanship, high quality products and exceptional weather protection for years to come.
